judgment
The final disposition of a lawsuit.
judgment notwithstanding the verdict
A judges decision to rule in a case contrary to the jurys verdict.

jury
A certain number of persons, usually selected from lists of registered voters or licensed drivers, and sworn to inquire of certain matters of fact, and declare the truth upon evidence laid before them during a trial.
jury panel
A list of prospective jurors to serve in a particular court, or for the trial of a particular action; denotes either the whole body of persons summoned as jurors for a particular term of court or those the clerk selects by lot.

justiciable claim
A claim that is capable of being resolved in the courts.
juvenile court
Court specifically established to hear cases concerning minors.

joint tenancy
When two or more persons own equal shares of personal property.
judicial branch
The branch of a government body that determines if there have been violations of the law and interprets the law if there are questions about what the law means in particular situations.

judicial review
The process by which a court determines the constitutionality of various legislative statues, administrative regulations, and executive actions.
jurisdiction
The authority of a court, as granted by a constitution or legislative act, to hear and decide cases.
